Greens call for UK Government to scrap Heathrow expansion
Expanding Heathrow Airport would be "a totally irresponsible act of climate vandalism" according to the Scottish Greens, who have called on the UK Government to scrap the controversial plan.
Scottish Greens Finance spokesperson, Ross Greer MSP, said:
"Parts of London are actually burning, the last thing it needs is a new runway. It would be a totally irresponsible act of climate vandalism. The third runway was a reckless idea when it was announced and looks even worse now that we are experiencing extreme heat and are clearly on the edge of climate breakdown."
"Everyone who has been outside will know that these are not normal temperatures. And they will only get worse if we keep burning fossil fuels and expanding airports at the cost of our environment. There are no second chances when it comes to our climate. Unless bold, transformative and urgent action is taken, then we may remember 2022 as the coolest summer of the rest of our lives."
