Greens call for UK arms investigation after Gaza hospital bombing

The UK government must immediately investigate if UK-made arms or components were used in the Israeli bombing of the Nasser hospital in Gaza, say the Scottish Greens.
The double strike bombing, which was carried out this week, killed 20 people, including journalists and health workers.
British companies have played a key role in the development of the F-35 fighter jets that are being used in the ongoing bombing. British industry is reported to supply 15% of the value of every F-35.
Scottish Greens foreign affairs spokesperson, Patrick Harvie, said:
“There are few acts as heinous and awful as bombing a hospital in a famine and then bombing it again once first responders have arrived, but that is what Israeli forces did.
“It is a shocking indictment of British arms export policy to know that fighter jets with components made here are flying over Gaza right now. Were those deadly killing machines used in yesterday’s bombing? We need a full investigation and transparency from the UK government.
“The bombing was horrific but it was not an isolated event. This atrocity is a shocking snapshot of the destruction that has been inflicted on Gaza for the last two years.
“Palestinians have endured the most grotesque man-made suffering. Tens of thousands of people have been killed, whole families have been wiped out, neighbourhoods have been made uninhabitable, and famine has taken root.
“Yet, despite all of it, the position of Keir Starmer and his colleagues has been to sit back and watch, putting arms company profits ahead of the rights and lives of Palestinians.”
