Greens become first party to back LGBTI education campaign

The Scottish Greens have become the first parliamentary party at Holyrood to wholly endorse a campaign for LGBTI inclusive education in Scotland.

All six of the Green MSPs are signed up to the TIE Pledge, a campaign for the requirement that all schools become proactive in tackling homophobia, biphobia and transphobia through an “inclusive educational approach”.

The party’s co-convener, Patrick Harvie MSP said:

“Greens will always be at the forefront of the movement for the campaign to eliminate homophobia, biphobia and transphobia in our schools. The Green group of MSPs will continue to push the government to introduce teacher training focussing on LGBTI issues, as well as for legislation that ensures that councils record incidents of homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying in schools.

“Our party will never treat these forms of discrimination as a special ‘conscience issue’ that allows MSPs from other parties to oppose equality.”
