Gaza: UK wrong to give strong backing to Israel
Commenting on the escalating violence and the prospect of a widespread ground offensive in Gaza, the Scottish Greens are calling for the UK and Scottish Governments to take action as part of the global movement for boycotts, divestment and sanctions to put immediate economic pressure on the Israeli government.
Patrick Harvie MSP said:
"There are many people in Scotland who want our Government to better represent their disgust at the disproportionate attack on Gaza in recent weeks. The UK and Scottish Governments must take a stronger stance in support of the people of Palestine, and take immediate action to put serious economic pressure on the Israeli Government through boycotts and disinvestment.
"David Cameron has made clear his defence of Israel's brutal campaign on a blockaded population, demonstrating yet again the opportunity an independent Scotland would have to better reflect support for Palestine in our foreign policy.”
