Gaza genocide report shows urgent need for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions

Responding to a new United Nations commission of inquiry report that has found Israeli forces responsible for genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, Scottish Green external affairs spokesperson Patrick Harvie said:
“This is one of the worst crimes of our age. Genocide has been committed openly, in front of the world, and continues day by day. No leader and no government can say they have been unaware of the daily atrocities, the scale of suffering or the terrible human cost.
“There is a responsibility on every government to take every step they can to end their complicity in the destruction, but too many are choosing to look the other way. The UK hasn’t only ignored the genocide that is taking place, it has actively denied it.
“Keir Starmer has blood on his hands. He has armed and supported Israel and only a few days ago he welcomed the Israeli President to Downing Street.
“The Scottish Government must lead by example. Our Parliament voted to back Green proposals for Boycotts, Divestment and Sanctions against Israel, but those words need to be turned into reality with a full range of actions including the prosecution of any Israeli military personnel who have returned to Scotland.
“There must be accountability and justice. Israel’s leaders should stand in court to face war crimes charges. But the consequences should also apply to the governments around the world which have enabled genocide, and the companies which have profiteered.”
