Fife Greens Welcome Pavement Parking Ban Implementation

The long-overdue implementation of the Footway Parking Bill will help improve accessibility and safety for all road users, particularly disabled individuals, parents with prams, and those with mobility or sight impairments.
Ryan Blackadder of Fife Greens praised the move, saying: “This is a fantastic step forward for Fife. Pavements are for people, not for cars, and it’s about time we prioritised those who rely on safe, accessible walkways.
“Far too often, people using wheelchairs, pushing prams, or those with visual impairments have been forced onto the road due to cars blocking their way. That is unacceptable, and this ban will go a long way in making our streets safer and more inclusive.”
The Footway Parking Bill, which prohibits parking on pavements, blocking dropped kerbs, and double parking, has already been enforced in other parts of Scotland, with Edinburgh implementing the rules last year.
While Fife Council has taken longer to prepare for enforcement, the Scottish Greens are pleased to see progress being made.
Mr Blackadder added: “We understand that enforcement will take time, but the most important thing is that the council is committing to action.
“This decision sends a strong message that the rights of pedestrians, particularly our most vulnerable, matter. Hopefully any income from fines can be spent improving our crumbling roads and clearing our paths of overgrowth and vegetation.”
The Fife Greens have urged local residents to support the ban, and look forward to further steps being taken to make Fife’s streets more pedestrian-friendly.
