Caroline Lucas has been an extraordinary advocate for people and planet

Scottish Green Co-leaders have hailed the fantastic work of Caroline Lucas MP.

Caroline Lucas has been an inspiration and an extraordinary advocate for people and planet, say the Scottish Greens.

This morning Caroline, who was the first ever Green politician to be elected to Westminster, has announced that she will not be standing in the next General Election. Caroline has served as an MP for Brighton Pavillion since 2010, after 10 years as a Member of the European Parliament.

Scottish Greens Co-leader Patrick Harvie said:

“Caroline has been an inspiration for so many. She has put our environment and human rights at the heart of her politics. She has been a fantastic voice for nature and human rights and a steadfast ally of our LGBTQ+ community. She will leave Westminster with huge respect, admiration and love from across our movement.”

Co-leader Lorna Slater said:

“Caroline has been an extraordinary advocate for people and planet. Over 25 years, both as an MEP and a sole MP, she has put in a fantastic shift and played a vital role in building our movement.

“Caroline is a legend who has stood up for our environment and for marginalised communities during 13 years of hostile Tory governments. We thank her for her friendship and wish her all the very best in what she decides to do next.”
