Burnham offers no change on Europe

10 years on from the Brexit vote, Scottish Green Co-leader Gillian Mackay has said the only way we can undo the damage and reclaim our place in Europe is with the powers of a normal independent country.
Andy Burnham who is looking to be the next Labour PM has already ruled out rejoining the EU, despite having campaigned against Brexit at the time and previously supporting a second referendum on membership.
Gillian said:
“Brexit has meant lost jobs, higher prices and even more racist anti-migrant laws. We are 10 years on from the vote and the big promises that were made all look so hollow.
“It was one of the most damaging decisions in a decade of Westminster chaos. Scotland didn’t vote for any of this and yet we have been made to pick up the pieces.
“Andy Burnham could be days away from moving into Downing Street, but when it comes to our place in the world he has already committed to continuing with a Brexit policy that is damaging us every day.
“He knows the impact that it is continuing to have, but we cannot rely on him or any of his Labour rivals to put a stop to it.
“With every passing day and year it has become increasingly clear that our only route back into Europe is with the powers of a normal independent country.
“With a climate that is in crisis, the spread of the far right around the world and the possibility of Nigel Farage in Downing Street, the case for an independent Scotland in Europe grows stronger every day.”
