A vote for the Greens is a vote for a nuclear free Scotland

Nuclear is a costly and toxic money pit.

Scottish Green MSP Maggie Chapman has slammed Labour’s plans to introduce nuclear power to Scotland

This follows news that Ministers in London have ordered GB Energy to assess Scottish sites that they believe could be used to host new nuclear projects.

Maggie said:

“There are thousands of things any incoming Scottish Government should prioritise: tackling poverty and inequality, investing in affordable, warm homes, securing care and support for disabled people. But selling out Scotland’s communities to nuclear giants is certainly not one of them.

“GB Energy is meant to be investing in Green jobs, not overriding devolution and trying to impose expensive and polluting solutions from London.

“Labour knows that new nuclear power would cost billions of pounds and do nothing to reduce skyrocketing energy bills or to protect our climate.

“It is a dangerous, costly and wasteful distraction from doing the real work that is needed to build a renewables-powered future.

“The disastrous money pit known as Hinkley Point C tells us everything we need to know about how unreliable, expensive and time consuming nuclear energy has become. The site is a toxic white elephant and we will be paying for it for years to come.

“Scotland faces a choice next May. A vote for Labour is a vote for more outdated and toxic nuclear plants in our communities, while the Scottish Greens will prioritise clean, green renewable technology.”
