2026 must be year Flamingo Land is rejected for good

Flamingo Land is not welcome in Loch Lomond.

Ministers must finally end the uncertainty hanging over Loch Lomond by finally rejecting plans for a destructive Flamingo Land mega resort, says Scottish Green co-leader Ross Greer.

Flamingo Land’s latest application was the most unpopular in Scottish planning history, with over 150,000 people submitting objections, alongside expert organisations including the Woodland Trust and Ramblers Scotland.

Government officials approved the controversial plans in June 2025, ignoring that record number of objections and overturning the National Park board’s unanimous decision to reject Flamingo Land’s application.

Following this, the Scottish Greens helped tens of thousands of people write to the Scottish Government, forcing them to recall the decision and commit to the final choice being made by Ministers themselves, rather than their civil servants.

Ross said:

“It’s been a decade since Flamingo Land first presented their daft and destructive proposals for Loch Lomond. This has gone on for far, far too long. People in Balloch and the surrounding area are exhausted.

“Ministers know the impact this uncertainty is having on local people. They certainly know the scale of opposition locally and across Scotland. The Scottish Government must not allow one of Scotland’s most iconic sites to be exploited by an operator trying to make a profit.

“Ministers rightly recalled the outrageous decision of their officials to approve these plans, but that only happened because tens of thousands of us took action to show the strength of public opposition to this daft application.

“People in Balloch need this process to finally end. They deserve so much better than a destructive mega-resort taking over the area.

"With a new year upon us, I hope that Ministers will finally draw a line under this sorry saga by throwing out Flamingo Land’s plans for good.”
