Regional Assistant for Mark Ruskell MSP
Location: The Scottish Parliament, Edinburgh (Flexible - Opportunity to work from The Scottish Parliament and/or remotely from home)
Hours: Part-time, 15 hours per week. Scottish Green MSPs operate a 4-Day week, which means that 30 hours is full time
Salary: £15,000 (£30,000 FTE)
Purpose of the role:
In this role, you’ll be a key link between Mark Ruskell MSP and his constituents in Mid Scotland and Fife. You will be working closely with the Communications and Operations Manager and Casework Coordinator to respond to enquiries from constituents, arrange meetings and regional visits with key stakeholders, and provide broader administrative support to the Office of Mark Ruskell MSP. This is an important role as part of a small, impactful team, working hard to ensure local voices are heard and acted on.
Responsibilities
- Supporting with regional casework by responding to enquiries from constituents, including campaign correspondence.
- Tracking and logging issues raised by constituents using the online caseworker system.
- Responding to constituents’ enquiries on a wide range of issues, including those of a sensitive nature and escalating accordingly.
- Keeping constituent records and documentation in line with casework GDPR requirements.
- Supporting the wider administration of the office, including diary management and correspondence with stakeholders in the region and areas of policy interest to the MSP.
- Coordination of meetings and visits, accompanying the MSP to take a note of meetings as required.
- Provide administrative support on research projects and policy work.
Essential Requirements
- Excellent organisational skills while being flexible in prioritising workloads during busy times.
- Strong communication skills, responding with empathy to people who may be in distress.
- The ability to work effectively with colleagues to deliver on the priorities of the team.
- Experience of working in a front facing environment, communicating with people from a range of different backgrounds.
- Awareness of the responsibilities entailed when representing those unable to advocate for themselves in certain situations.
- An interest in helping people and a curiosity to probe for further information where required.
- Respect for confidentiality and discretion in dealing with sensitive issues.
- Willingness to travel for meetings and visits across the Mid Scotland and Fife Region.
Desirable
- An understanding of the specific challenges and issues facing constituents in the Mid Scotland and Fife region.
