Salary: £30,687 - £36,523 per annum

Hours: 30 hours per week. Please note, as part of the Scottish Greens Parliamentary Group, Kristopher operates a four-day working week, and 30 hours is full time.

Location: Either availability to be in Parliament 3 days a week, alternatively hybrid working from Orkney with some travel across the region

Closing Date: 5pm on 10th of July – Interviews planned for Monday 20th of July (if unsuitable an alternative date can be agreed on).

Responsibilities

  • Delivering digital/comms aspects of regional strategy
    • Producing materials that effectively convey my aims to the public and media.
    • Corresponding with local campaign groups.
    • Producing high quality press briefings, speeches, presentations and written materials.
  • Maintaining and growing social media presence
    • Creating engaging content to promote my work, including regional visits, policy positions, and chamber and committee activity.
    • Reviewing social media trends and briefing me on issues of relevance to my parliamentary role
    • Drafting and posting social media content to update constituents on my parliamentary activities
  • Supporting with proactive and reactive regional comms
    • Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders such as regional journalists
    • Issuing press releases & responding to requests for comments on my behalf
  • Monitoring national news on issues relevant to my portfolio and working with central comms to develop media opportunities
  • Monitoring regional news and proactively suggesting and developing media opportunities
  • Monitoring and drafting written correspondence such as letters, requests for information and parliamentary questions and motions.
  • Supporting the office’s research function on policy areas relevant to my portfolio, in collaboration with the Head of Office and the central research team. We anticipate this aspect of the job will take up to 20% of the post.

Requirements

  • An interest in politics with the confidence to represent me in a media-related capacity.
  • Excellent creative skills, including scriptwriting, capturing and editing video and photo
  • Experience monitoring large amounts of information across media channels and assessing the potential importance of developing stories
  • A good understanding of how the media and social media world operate, and a deep passion for both
  • Ability to manage sensitive or confidential information and building strong professional relationships with members of the media and influencers
  • Excellent written and oral skills relevant to the post, including speechwriting, PRs, presentation scripts etc
  • Excellent IT skills and ability to work with a remote team
  • Have excellent organisational skills while being flexible in prioritising workloads during busy times.
  • Essential to have demonstrated knowledge of 2 of the following areas, 3 or more highly desirable; Shetland, Orkney, Caithness, Sutherland, & Ross, and/or Western Isles
