Glen McGill

Glenrothes Central and Thornton

Caring for a loved one is challenging, scary, heart-breaking, lonely. Yet it can also be fulfilling, life-affirming and a real privilege.

Support and recognition are crucial.

I have managed without having to access support services for four years now. Sadly things are deteriorating and I know I am likely to need both professional support and the shoulders of friends before long.

Reports on the news today suggest it is getting increasingly hard to find good care as people are leaving the profession. Carers are under-valued whether professional or unpaid family carers.

Yet we are almost all likely to experience what is like to need or be a carer at some point in our lives.

The Scottish Greens place carers right at the heart of their manifesto for local government. Help the voices of carers be heard by voting Green this May.
