Local Green councillor Holly Bruce has been responding to concerns about the effectiveness of the Car Free Zone at Battlefield Primary School after a number of near misses involving pedestrians and cyclists.

A site visit with parents, council officers and the police concluded that better enforcement, proper signage, street furniture and a driver awareness campaign were needed to change people’s behaviour and attitude towards the scheme.

As a result, police are now looking at improved technology to help with enforcement while Battlefield Primary School have been awarded funding to help deliver the infrastructure changes and promote the Car Free Zone.

Holly said:

“Not only will this mean our streets will become safer for everyone, it will encourage parents and students to use active travel, helping Glasgow achieve its net zero target by 2030 and encouraging Langside to become a healthier, more liveable neighbourhood.”
