Local Green councillor Martha Wardrop has been campaigning for investment in local public spaces with a particular focus on new play facilities, repairs to the Stewart Memorial Fountain and tree planting within open spaces.

Hillhead has a growing population but many people do not have access to a private garden. The cost of homes with access to their own garden is increasing and having a garden space has become a luxury. Martha said:

“We must support publicly accessible space for everyone to be able to sit, relax and enjoy their local area. As a consequence of the pandemic, there has been increased use of Kelvingrove Park and other local open spaces for physical activity and mental health benefits. This has made it clear how much these precious places are cherished.”

“Our green spaces are vital for everyone’s health and wellbeing. They help to curb pollution, support nature, and lower air temperatures.”
