Bearsden South

Dr Emma Sheppard is standing to be East Dunbartonshire's first Green councillor in the Bearsden South by-election on 29th January and will fight for safer streets, more support for public transport and warmer homes.
Emma is a passionate community activist and has been a key member of many community groups, including:
- Bearsden West Community Council
- Westerton Partnership Nursery
- Westerton Gala
- Westerton and Boclair Parent Councils
- Cairnhill Woods Group
We're deep in a climate crisis and too many people are struggling to make ends meet, but while Green MSPs are showing leadership on a national level with policies like free bus travel, there is very little urgency from East Dunbartonshire council.
It's over 4 years since locals came up with great ideas to support walking, wheeling and cycling in the council's active travel consultation, yet we've still not even seen a draft of the strategy. Meanwhile buses like the 60 and 60A are still too unreliable, despite an increase in under 22s making use of free travel.
As a doctor working in an area with high levels of poverty Emma is seeing the biting impact of Westminster austerity and the affordability crisis. The Council must play a part in making sure that everybody has a warm home to live in.
Vote Scottish Greens #1 on Thursday 29th January.
