Glasgow Greens confirm Holyrood 2021 constituency candidates

The Glasgow Green Party has selected candidates for multiple constituencies in Glasgow for the first time in a Scottish election.

Lead Glasgow regional candidates Patrick Harvie, Kim Long and Nadia Kanyange will contest their home constituencies of Glasgow Kelvin, Glasgow Provan and Glasgow Pollok respectively.

Recent polling suggests that the party are on track to elect at least two MSPs in Glasgow, and a record number nationally.

Scottish Greens co-leader, Partick resident and lead Glasgow candidate Patrick Harvie said:

“I am delighted to be standing in Kelvin, and am confident that we can build on our second place finish in the constituency last time. Kelvin is the greenest constituency in Scotland, and will be hosting the global climate conference COP26 later this year. It's time for Kelvin to elect a Green MSP.”

Dennistoun Councillor and lead Glasgow candidate Kim Long said:

“I have been proud to represent part of Provan constituency as a councillor since 2017, and I’ve worked hard to protect our local services, tackle the climate emergency and protect the human rights of my constituents. Now I’m standing for the Scottish Parliament alongside Patrick and Nadia - with more Green MSPs we can do even more for Glasgow.

“Our campaign has attracted a record number of volunteers who are all working hard under the difficult restrictions because they know that we need to vote like our future depends on it.”

Lead Glasgow candidate Nadia Kanyange said:

“Glasgow is my home, and, when I vote on May 6th, I will be proud that my name will be on the ballot paper for people to choose. Politics needs to reflect our society, and I hope I can be part of a more representative group of MSPs so that more voices can be heard.”

Elaine Docherty, co-convenor of Glasgow Green Party said:

“Recent polling shows that more people than ever before want to vote Green at this election.

“The record of achievement of Patrick in Holyrood, and of our group of Green Councillors, shows that no Green vote in Glasgow is a wasted vote. Patrick, Kim and Nadia lead an outstanding list of Green candidates who would make Glasgow proud.

“We look forward to continuing our record breaking campaign, and taking the message that we must vote like our future depends on it to more people in Glasgow than ever before.”
