Media release - Fife Greens

Former SNP councillor joins Greens

A former SNP councillor in Dunfermline has switched to the Scottish Greens, citing concerns over the climate emergency.

Ian Ferguson, who retired at this election, represented Dunfermline North for the SNP following a by-election win in 2015, holding the seat again from 2017 to 2022.

Mr Ferguson said: "I have been impressed with the way that the Scottish Greens have worked constructively in government to bring a greater focus on the climate emergency and the cost of living crisis, and after leaving council and spending more time with my grandchildren I realise how important their future is.

“I found myself disappointed that there were no Green councillors elected to Fife council, because it seems clear that we need to shift our focus towards more sustainable developments and improving our town centres. That's why I have decided to join the Scottish Greens in Fife to help them build for the future.”
