Scottish Greens MSP Mark Ruskell has urged the Scottish Government to take action after gas flaring by ExxonMobil at its Mossmoran plant since the Easter weekend has led to record complaints from affected residents.

Mr Ruskell, Green MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife, has called on the First Minister to intervene after the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) said it was launching a new investigation into the flaring, despite them having already issued ExxonMobil with a ‘final warning’ letter in April 2018 over ‘preventable and unacceptable’ flaring.

Wightman: More radical action needed on vacant land blight

Wed 24 Apr, 2019

Progress on reducing the amount of vacant and derelict land in Scotland is welcome, but more radical action is needed to stop the blight and create opportunities for local communities, according to Scottish Greens land reform spokesperson Andy Wightman MSP.

The total amount of derelict and urban vacant land in Scotland decreased by 716 hectares (6%) in the past year but there are still over 11,000 hectares – equivalent to around two-thirds of the land area of Glasgow – which could be put to better use.

A Green New Deal for Scotland

Scottish Greens Parliamentary Co-Leader Patrick Harvie MSP will this week bring forward a debate calling on the Scottish Government to develop a Green New Deal policy for Scotland.

Last month the Greens brought forward a motion to declare a climate emergency, but this was voted down by every other party.

Choose Hope Over Hate

Alison Johnstone MSP Sat 20 Apr, 2019

European elections are coming up in May and they will be the most important we’ve ever had. They represent a chance for Scotland’s voice to be heard at last, after repeatedly being treated with contempt in the years since the EU referendum.

Scottish Greens have fought tirelessly for Scotland’s remain vote to be respected. These elections are a chance to prove there is in fact growing support for staying in the EU, but not only that, they are also a chance to show that we reject the hateful ideology at the very heart of the Brexit project and oust those MEPs who’ve enabled it.

Freedom of Movement vital to health service

Thu 18 Apr, 2019

It’s vital that Scotland continues to be a welcoming country if our health service is to thrive in the future according to Scottish Greens Parliamentary Co-Leader and Health Spokesperson Alison Johnstone.

Freedom of Movement has been hugely important to the NHS, with many EU nationals working in this vital public service, yet Brexit threatens to end this entitlement that Scotland has benefited from for many years.
