Mental health should be at the heart of Scotland’s healthcare systems, the Scottish Greens have said.

The Scottish Greens manifesto will include proposals to allocate 10% of frontline health spend to mental health by 2026, invest an additional £161 million into Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services and expand access to remedies like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Social Prescribing.

The party also want more focus on a preventative agenda.

Scottish Greens: Kindergarten can help tackle attainment gap

Scottish Green plans to move the age children start formal schooling to seven, and instead introduce a play-based kindergarten stage for the early years can have a vital role in reducing the attainment gap.

Studies show that all children younger than seven respond and develop better with play-based learning, while formal assessments in literacy and numeracy in the early years can put some children off learning.

Scottish Greens will create 100,000 jobs

The Scottish Green Party’s manifesto will contain plans to create over 100,000 jobs to fuel a green recovery from the pandemic and tackle the climate emergency, the party will reveal today.

Scottish Greens co-leader Lorna Slater used her speech to party conference to announce plans to invest in renewable energy, public transport, retrofit homes to tackle fuel poverty and restoring nature.

“Unlike other political parties we’ve said all along that we would respect due process, we therefore welcome the publication of James Hamilton’s independent report. It retains credibility in this process, unlike the parliamentary committee which has repeatedly sabotaged its own authority and betrayed the trust of original complainers.

“Mr Hamilton has clearly concluded that the First Minister did not breach the ministerial code, so we will not support the vote of no confidence being pushed by the Tories.

New poll shows Scottish Greens set for record result

Patrick Harvie: Salmond committee has descended into farce

A process which should have examined the Scottish Government’s failure to appropriately apply its sexual harassment complaints policy has been hijacked for political gain and descended into farce, Scottish Greens co-leader Patrick Harvie said today.

Mr Harvie spoke following yet more leaks from committee members, who have now clearly breached the MSP code of conduct themselves, ahead of the culmination of the years long inquiry process.

Scottish Greens: Nationalisation plans only first step to improving railways

Scottish Greens have welcomed the Scottish Government’s decision to take the railways under public ownership.

Transport Secretary Michael Matheson has confirmed ministers will not renew Scotrail operator Abellio’s contract and instead run the railways under an arm’s length company.

Responding, Scottish Greens transport spokesperson John Finnie said: “Greens have long called for public ownership of our railways, so we welcome this progress from the Scottish Government.
